Esther Wakeman is Director of Fundraising and Marketing for Ashgate Hospicecare in Chesterfield. Throughout her career she has focused on direct and digital marketing to connect with people. She started working for Saint Francis Hospice in 2009 before moving to Ashgate Hospicecare in 2014. Prior to that Esther worked in various sales and marketing roles as well as running her own digital business for five years. She holds a postgraduate diploma from the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing and is a member of the Institute of Fundraising.

1. What do you most like about being on the Board?

Like most people who work in the charity sector I love my job because it is an opportunity to make the world a better place. I have seen so many fundraisers go on to raise huge amounts of money for the cause they work for following training, networking and conferences like the Fundraising Convention.

Being part of that is such a privilege and knowing there are so many charities represented at Convention by fundraisers who will take new ideas back to their charity is really exciting.

 2. What do you bring to the Board?  

I work for a local charity – Ashgate Hospice in Chesterfield – so I think about what sessions work for charities of different sizes and regions. Fundraising Convention has a lot to offer sole fundraisers, as well as those who work in big teams, and I think that is important. Small charities and local charities need fresh ideas and inspiration as much as everyone else.


 3. What are you looking forward to about this year’s Fundraising Convention?

I work on the Personal Effectiveness track and am really looking forward to hearing the speakers we have lined up for this year. There are some really innovative topics in the mix so I am looking forward to learning and networking over the three days.
